Internet Explorer is constantly changing. It is a dynamic program and its creators are always developing and adding exciting and useful new features to it. The frequency with which Internet Explorer is updated varies, but you will definitely want to make sure you keep up with new versions. Fortunately, it is a simple matter to check to see if a new version is out and to update your own version to the new one.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have further questions regarding Internet Explorer and how to update it, please go to the Internet Explorer FAQs page (see Resources below).
  • Check your computer's available memory. You absolutely must have 64 MB of memory at a minimum in order for Internet Explorer to run on your computer.
  • Avoid getting phished. Internet Explorer has a phishing filter that lets you know any time you access a potentially dangerous or untrustworthy Web site. The criminals who run these sites use them to collect (or 'phish') your personal information for their own use. The phishing filter is already turned on when you download Internet Explorer.
  • Check the Internet Explorer Web site often (see Resources below). Announcements about new versions of Internet Explorer are made on its Web site. You can also find great add-ons to incorporate into your browser there. By periodically checking in, you can be sure you are ready to get the latest versions of Internet Explorer when they first come out.
  • When you have updated Internet Explorer, take some time to read about its newest features on its Web site (see Resources below).
  • Only Internet Explorer 7.0 is guaranteed to work with these instructions. Earlier versions of the browser may have different steps to take to update it.
