The Trailfire toolbar is a real innovation. Using it creates a virtual map of your Internet travels that your friends can use to re-trace your steps. You can also use the toolbar to leave notes on the Web sites you visit. Your friends can even access these notes when they follow your trail! Installing the Trailfire toolbar on Internet Explorer is simple. The toolbar is also compact, so it does not take up half of your browser screen (a common annoyance with many toolbars). If you want to do something genuinely different online, you've got to try the Trailfire toolbar.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Active Internet service
  • Computer
  • Internet Explorer Version 7

Download the Trailfire Toolbar

Step1
Go online using Internet Explorer on your computer. If it isn't already installed, visit the Microsoft Web site to download the latest version (see Resources below).
Step2
Pay a visit to Internet Explorer's Web site (see Resources below).
Step3
Click the link that says 'Get Add-Ons.'
Step4
Select the 'Trailfire Toolbar' option.
Step5
Look under 'Demos and Trials' and choose 'Download Free Version.'
Step6
Hit 'Run' in the pop-up dialog box.
Step7
Allow the download wizard to guide you through the download process. This should take just a minute or two, depending on your computer's speed. Once you have gone through the download wizard, click 'Finish' and your new Trailfire toolbar will be installed and ready to use.
Step8
Use the icons on the Trailfire toolbar to leave notes on Web sites you have visited and leave a path for your friends to follow. Now all your friends can see where you have been on the Internet and what you think of the sites you have seen.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you need additional help with how to download and use the Trailfire toolbar, see the Internet Explorer FAQs page (see Resources below).
  • Internet Explorer 7 will run on computers using Windows XP, Vista or Server 2003 with a 233MHz processor or higher.
  • It is a good idea to run frequent security scans on your computer to make sure Internet Explorer has all the information it needs to do its job. If your computer uses Windows, just go to your control panel and click on 'Security.' You will be able to ask Windows to check and make sure you are protected against all the most recent threats. If you are not, Windows will tell you what you need to do.
  • Downloading the Trailfire toolbar, as described by this guide, is done using Internet Explorer version 7. If you are running a prior version, you may need to upgrade your browser.
