How to Change Proxy Settings in Internet Explorer

Sometimes you need to connect to the Internet through a different server than the one you normally use. There could be a variety of reasons for this. Perhaps you need access to a remote computer that is set up on a foreign server. Your regular server may be down, prompting you to have to make a temporary change. Whenever you need to use a proxy server in this way, Internet Explorer is there to help.

Instructions

Change Your Proxy Settings on Internet Explorer

1. Power up your computer and open Internet Explorer. If it isn't already installed, visit the Microsoft Web site to download the latest version (see Resources below).

2. Go to the 'Tools' tab.

3. Select 'Internet Options.'

4. Click on the 'Connections' tab.

5. Hit the 'Settings' button.

6. Look over the list of settings options, then click on the circle beside the one that you want.

7. Click 'OK.' Your proxy settings have now been changed. If you want to change them again, simply follow these steps, but make a different selection from the settings options list before clicking 'OK.'

• Changing proxy settings, as described by this guide, is done using Internet Explorer version 7. If you are running a prior version, you may need to upgrade your browser.

• Know that proxy settings for Internet Explorer 7 can only be changed by the Admins, Guests or additional accounts on the same computer do not have the ability to make such a change.
