If you are a regular user of the popular Internet Explorer Web browser, you probably feel like you know its basic operations pretty well. Still, Internet Explorer is a much more varied and complex program than most people realize. If you find you need to perform an unfamiliar task with it or if you are just curious as to what else your browser can do, you may find it beneficial to talk with other Internet Explorer users and hear about their experiences. Internet Explorer recognizes this need and provides forums for its customers to use to gather and exchange information in an open setting.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet access
  • Computer
  • Internet Explorer Version 7

Find Camaraderie on the Internet Explorer Forums

Step1
Find Internet Explorer on your computer's desktop and open it. If it isn't already installed, visit the Microsoft Web site to download the latest version (see Resources below).
Step2
Go to the Internet Explorer home page (see Resources below).
Step3
Click on 'Join the Community.'
Step4
Choose the 'Newsgroups' tab.
Step5
Decide what forum you would like to access. There are forums devoted to every version of Internet Explorer, plus a forum about security when using Internet Explorer.
Step6
Click the link to the forum you would like to access.
Step7
Read the posts in the forum. If you would like to make your own post, you will need to sign in to your Internet Explorer account (or create one if you do not already have one).
Step8
Sign up for an Internet Explorer account by clicking on 'Sign In' and then hitting the 'Sign Up Now' button. Once you have done that, simply follow the prompts to create your Internet Explorer account.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you have a Hotmail or MSN email address, you won't need to create a new Internet Explorer account. Just enter your email address and password into the provided boxes and hit 'Sign In.'
  • Internet Explorer 7 will run on computers using Windows XP, Vista or Server 2003 with a 233MHz processor or higher.
  • Find further assistance with how to access Internet Explorer forums by visiting the Internet Explorer FAQs page (see Resources below).
  • Internet Explorer takes your online security seriously. That is why it comes with a firewall program already installed. This firewall will check each Web site that you visit for safety and will then decide whether to permit you to access that site or not. You can adjust the firewall settings to make it more lenient or strict, as you prefer.
  • Accessing forums, as described by this guide, is done using Internet Explorer version 7. If you are running a prior version, you may need to upgrade your browser.
