Step 1
Consult a practitioner if your baby has difficulty sleeping. If your child is a light sleeper or awakens in an agitated state, there may be a disruption in the child's nervous system. It's possible that tension on the skull is causing the nervous system to be in a persistently alert state.
-
Step 2
Consider osteopathic medicine as an alternative to chemical and drug-related treatments in children. The homeopathic approach may have fewer risks associated with treatments.
-
Step 3
Use a skilled practitioner of osteopathy, who can gently encourage corrections to your child's body, by focusing on natural methods to return balance and function.
-
Step 1
Expect treatment to consist of gentle movements coupled with slight to moderate pressure of the muscle, fascia or bones.
-
Step 2
Position the patient on the examination table. If your child is apprehensive, you may want to ask the practitioner if you can hold the child in your arms or on your lap.
-
Step 3
Plan to spend 30 to 45 minutes during each appointment. Your practitioner will spend much of the session touching your child's skull, trying to realign the malleable bones using gentle rhythmic motions.
-
Step 4
Buy "Wisdom in the Body: The Craniosacral Approach to Essential Health" (see Resources below) to learn more about the concepts of holisitic osteopathy.
