Widgets are a great way to let visitors to your Web site or blog know about the sites you frequent or those you'd like to promote. With Answerbag's customized widget builder, guests can read questions and answers or ask or answer a question themselves. Follow these steps to find out how.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Email account
  • Computer with Internet access
  • Blog or personal Web site

Access the Answerbag Widget Builder to Customize Your Widget

Step1
Start at the Answerbag homepage (see Resources below).
Step2
Consider registering for an Answerbag account. You don't need to be an Answerbag member to customize (or even have) a widget; but you will not be able to ask or answer questions if you don't have an account.
Step3
Sign in to your Answerbag account or click on the "Register" link to get started.
Step4
Determine your Answerbag nickname, provide an email address, choose and confirm your password. Click on the "Submit" button to agree to the Answerbag terms of use.
Step5
Click on the "Widgets" link on the home page. You'll be taken to a page that contains examples of the widgets you can choose from.

Build Your Customized Widget

Step1
Decide if you want your widget to display "Ask and Answer," "Ask Only" or "Questions Only" by selecting one of those choices from the drop-down menu labeled "Create Your Widget."
Step2
Go to the "Show Questions" text field and select "All," "In a Specific Category," "Related to a Keyword" or "Posted by a Specific Member" from the drop-down menu.
Step3
Choose between 3 and 10 questions to display from the drop-down menu titled "Question Count."
Step4
Decide if you want the posts sorted by "Date (Latest First)" or by "Random."
Step5
Preview your widget in the box. Go back and make changes if you'd like to change the look of your widget.
Step6
Select and copy the code that appears in the box labeled "Get the Code for Your Widget." This will be the code you need to paste to your Web site or blog.
Step7
Customize the colors or fonts using HTML code or with your Web builder's or blog's editing tools.

Tips & Warnings

  • Ask a question about widgets on Answerbag if you have any problems setting up your widget or go to the "Help" link (see Resources below).
  • You can choose to answer anonymous to questions if you would like to keep your Web site or blog identity separate from your Answerbag identity.
