How to Join a Yahoo Group
If you have an interest in something you want to share, are passionate about a particular cause or just want to connect with others, then joining a Yahoo Group might be right up your alley. There are diverse groups that range from "Computers & Internet" to "Government & Politics." Of course, there's a "Romance & Relationships" group available, too! You'll have a chance to get to know other group members while discussing your shared interest.
Instructions
-
Join a Yahoo Group
-
1
Begin at the Yahoo homepage (see Resources below).
-
2
Click on the "Groups" link. It's the fifth link down on the far left-hand side of the Yahoo homepage.
-
-
3
Browse the list of existing groups. There are dozens to choose from.
-
4
Pick your category and click on it. Another listing of more specific groups will appear. Choose a subgroup (known as a "More Specialized Group") and click on its link.
-
5
Repeat the process if another list of even more specialized groups appears.
-
6
Scroll through the "Group Listings." Read the brief descriptions that accompany them. Click on the "Next" link to view "Group Listings" on the following page.
-
7
Click on a listing that interests you. Some groups allow you to view messages without contributing or officially joining. Some will also let you browse through past messages so that you can get a real flavor for the group's discussions before committing yourself. Others require that you actually join before viewing or posting your own comments.
-
8
Click on the "Join This Group" button when you're ready. If you already have a Yahoo member ID, you'll be asked to enter that. If not, go to the "Sign Up" link on the home page and register. You'll be asked to set up your profile and membership preferences.
-
9
Start your own group if you don't find one that fits your needs. Click on the "Start a Group" link to begin this process.
-
10
Fill out the profile information. Select a category where your group will be indexed in the Groups Directory. If the Yahoo Groups editors don't agree, they'll suggest a more appropriate category for your group.

Tips & Warnings
If you need extra help or more information, visit the "Group Help" Web page (see Resources below).
Consider your many options. You can partake in group events, share group photos or even conduct member polls and surveys.
Be careful of sharing too much personal information until you really know your group's members. It is not difficult for someone to disguise his true identity. Don't put your own identity at risk.
Yahoo won't take responsibility for your security when visiting third-party locations (identified as such when you click on links from Yahoo Groups). Be careful.
