How to Search Yahoo Groups Archives

Just like with groups that meet face to face, you might like to know who you're getting involved with before joining one of the online groups at Yahoo Groups. To see what your group has been talking about, search the prior messages posted in their Group archives. You'll see messages, shared files, group calendars and shared photos. As long as they were saved for group access, you should be able to see them in the archives. Follow these steps to find out how.

    Instructions

    Things You'll Need

    • Computer with Internet access
    • Membership in 1 or more Yahoo Groups
    1. Search Yahoo Groups Archives

      • 1

Sign in at the Yahoo home page (see Resources below).

      • 2

        Click on the "Groups" link.

      • 3

Click on the specific group whose archives you are interested in searching. If you are already a member, find this link within "My Groups." If you're not yet a member, find the link in the list of groups in the "Browse Groups" section.

      • 4

Click on the "Messages" button. Some groups allow any viewer to see prior messages that have been put in the group archive. Other groups require that you become a member of the group first.

      • 5

Join the group if you can't get access to the archives as a non-member. Fill out the profile information as required. You can always quit after you've searched the archives if you don't like what you've found or if you're just not interested in that group any longer.

      • 6

Explore another group if you decide that this one is not right for you based on its archives. Yahoo Groups has plenty of groups to choose from. You can always create your own group if you're not happy with the existing ones.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Some archives may only be accessible by the group's moderator or the individual who posted specific messages. The same is true for shared photos and other files stored in the archives.

    • Get additional help at the "Group Help" Web page (see Resources below).

    • Be careful about the Web sites or chat rooms you enter as part of your Yahoo Groups participation. Many of these areas are not hosted by Yahoo, but rather by a third-party vendor. In some cases, these are vendor partners with Yahoo (identified as such) and should be considered reasonably safe. Others have no real connection and, as such, Yahoo will not accept any responsibility for your security.

    • Keep in mind that Yahoo keeps tabs on what you do while you're visiting any of their related Web sites. Your information may be shared with marketing firms that have partnered with Yahoo to promote specific products or services meant to appeal to individuals in your demographic group.
