How to Research Companies With Yahoo Finance

Yahoo's thorough finance services include research tools, customized personal portfolios, stock quotes, and access to up-to-date investment information across the globe. You can use Yahoo Finance to learn historical information about companies, check the current financial status of a company or see projections of future performance--all with a click of your mouse.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access

    Navigate Yahoo Finance Pages

  1. Step 1

    Visit Yahoo's home page by typing the web address into your computer's Internet browser (see Resources below). Click on the 'Finance' link in Yahoo's list of services. This will take you to the Yahoo Finance home page.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the 'Finance Search' link under the 'Home' tab on Yahoo Finance's home page.

  3. Step 3

    Choose a company from the list provided or search for the company you are curious about by typing its name into the search field provided on the same page. You can choose from private companies, subsidiaries, individuals and more. Once you choose, you will arrive at a comprehensive page of information on the company of your choosing.

  5. Step 1

    Read the information provided on the company page. You can read articles about the company as well as find company addresses and phone numbers, key contacts and revenue information.

  6. Step 2

    Look under the 'Top Competitors' section to research and compare similar companies in the same industry.

  7. Step 3

    Click on the links in the 'More On This Company' section to further research the company. You can get information on current news about the company or about the company's industry.

    Go to Yahoo Finance's home page to learn an alternative way to research companies (see Resources below).

  10. Step 2

    Enter a stock symbol in the field provided, and then click on the 'Get Quotes' button. If you don't know the symbol for the stock you're looking up, use the 'Symbol Lookup' link.

  11. Step 3

    View the extensive information provided about the company's stock, and then click on 'Profile' under the 'Company' section to find a thorough summary of company information.
