How to Monitor Yahoo Email

Yahoo email offers a variety of ways to customize your email so that you can monitor it to your specifications anytime, anywhere. Choose from filters, blocking tools and others methods of managing your account. Monitoring your email is made fast and simple with Yahoo Mail options.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Yahoo account

    Block Emails

  1. Step 1

    Go to the Yahoo Mail home page to get started (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Log in to your Yahoo account by typing your username and password in the fields provided.

  3. Step 3

    Click on 'Options' from your email inbox. This will take you to a page where you can customize your email account.

  4. Step 4

    Select 'Block Addresses.' Enter the address of any sender you wish not to receive email from in the field provided then click on the 'Add Block' button. All future correspondence from this user will automatically be disposed of.

    Click on 'Filters' in mail options to employ Yahoo's automatic sorting tool. With filters, you can have emails sent to specific folders in your inbox so that you can prioritize and organize your mail the way you like it.

  7. Step 2

    Click 'Add' to get started. Choose a name for the particular filter you are installing and fill in the parameters in the drop-down boxes.

  8. Step 3

    Use this feature to further monitor your email by having it forwarded to your mobile device if you prefer.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that when blocking emails, you can enter an entire domain to block in addition to specific email addresses. For example, if you enter 'junk.com,' you can eliminate all emails from that domain from appearing in your account.
  • Consider upgrading to Yahoo Mail Plus for even more filtering options.
  • Monitor your mail manually by simply setting up folders in your inbox and saving emails to these folders to keep important emails organized in an easy-to-read format.
  • Look out for hackers posing as Internet companies and don't reveal any financial information without being 100 percent certain that the recipient is legitimate.
  • Report any suspicious emails and never give out personal information via email.
