How to Remove a Posting From Craigslist

Craigslist receives a massive amount of traffic daily and is therefore a great way to reach a number of people with a classified ad. However, this also means that you may continue receiving responses to your post even after the post becomes outdated. To avoid this, you can remove a posting from Craigslist before it naturally expires.

  1. How to Remove a Posting From Craigslist

    • 1

Figure out where you can access your original Craigslist post. This may be through an email you received when you first created the post. If that email has been deleted, start on the Craigslist homepage (see Resources below).

    • 2

Click on 'My Account' on the Craigslist homepage to access your Craigslist account. Sign in to your account using the email address and password you created.

    • 3

Use the alternative option of deleting the post through your personal email account if you did not create a Craigslist account. Go to the email you received that included a link to 'Publish' your post. This same link will give you the option to 'Delete' your post. All you have to do is follow the link, click 'Delete' and you're done. Your post will be removed shortly.

    • 4

Use the helpful Craigslist back-up plan if you didn't create an account and can't find that old email address. Go to the Craigslist 'Resend' page to have that email resent to you (see Resources below). Enter the email address you used to set up the post. The email will be resent, and you simply have to follow the 'Delete' link described above.

    • 5

Note that if you do not want to follow all of these steps to remove your Craigslist posting, the post will automatically expire after a certain time period. For certain large cities, this time period is relatively quick (one week for many types of postings). For smaller cities, the post may remain active up to 45 days, but it will then delete itself.

Tips & Warnings

  • Facilitate the process of removing a posting from Craigslist by taking a few simple steps prior to the posting of your ad. Create a Craigslist account or at least be sure to save the confirmation email with your post-publication information. This way you can easily retrieve your post and remove it when you are ready.

  • Unfortunately, it is sometimes the case that a post you put on Craigslist may result in abusive email or harassment. If this is the reason that you want to remove a posting from Craigslist, review the site's information on abuse to see what additional options you have (see Resources below).
