1. Go to the official Great Southern Railway Web site and select 'The Overland' train, which will take you from Melbourne to Adelaide (see Resources below).
2. Go to the ‘Compare Service Levels' page to choose the class of ticket you're interested in buying. There are two levels, Red Kangaroo and Gold Kangaroo, based on amenities and levels of service.
3. Repeat Steps 1 and 2 for 'The Ghan' train, which will take you from Adelaide to Alice Springs.
