Is the heat of the summer making you miserable? There are several effective ways to beat the heat without the use of air conditioning. These simple steps will show you how to easily cool yourself without air conditioning.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

Step1
Place yourself directly in front of the nearest fan. If you don’t have a fan, find a place near a window where you can feel the breeze.
Step2
Use a few pieces of ice wrapped in a cloth or paper towel and place the bundle against your wrist for twenty seconds or so, periodically. If you can find your pulse, place the ice directly on that point. This will almost immediately relieve some of the discomfort caused by the heat. Try placing the ice against the pulse on your neck as well.
Step3
Wet the sleeves of your T-shirt. This will let you get slightly cooler, especially if there is any breeze.
Step4
Move to the basement of your house if you have one. It’s generally cooler in a basement than in the upper levels of the home.
Step5
Avoid going outside or into places where the sun will be beating directly on you. Direct sunlight will make you hotter faster, so try to avoid it as much as possible.
Step6
Drink lots of water throughout the day regardless of whether or not you’re thirsty. This is one of the most effective ways to stay cool because more fluid intake means more perspiration, and that means more comfort from the heat.
Step7
Stay away from using appliances that generate a lot of heat, such as the stove and oven. These appliaces produce a lot of heat that will hang around in the house and make you more uncomfortable.
Step8
Repeat any of the above steps throughout the day, alternating if you wish. By combining several or all of these techniques you will be able to stay cool on even the hottest of days.

Tips & Warnings

  • Close your blinds and curtains. The less sunlight that enters your home, the less heat that gets in.
  • Avoid drinking things like soda or juices that have high sugar content. These generally make you thirstier when you’re really hot.
  • If you feel like you are going to faint or as though the heat is making you sick, immediately take a cold shower. If you still feel the same afterwards, contact a doctor.
