Do you want to impress your friends by blowing perfect smoke rings? It's a classic smoker's trick and it's sure to make you the center of attention. These steps will show you how to blow smoke rings that look great and hold their shape.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Smoking materials
  1. Step 1

Purchase some tobacco. Cigarettes of the full flavor or menthol variety are best, as well as cigars. A light cigarette will still work but the smoke is weak and it just doesn't look as cool. Many prefer a hand-rolled cigarette with no filter for the best effect.

  2. Step 2

Pack the cigarette or cigar well. The best way to do this is to tap the mouthpiece end of the cigarette against a flat surface, sliding your fingers from the top of the cigarette to the bottom as you strike the surface.

  3. Step 3

Begin taking a drag as you normally would. A large drag will work the best, however, do not inhale the smoke. Instead draw the smoke gently toward the front of your throat and hold it there momentarily. This might make you cough if you are a new smoker, or even a seasoned one, but you'll get used to it.

  4. Step 4

Point your tongue downward and form your lips into an "O" shape as if you were going to say "Boo." This will take some practice but try to make the "O" as large as you can.

  5. Step 5

Push a small amount of smoke toward your lips by making a slight "uh" sound. This is the most difficult part and will take a while to perfect.

  6. Step 6

Move your tongue toward your lips always keeping it pointed down as the smoke reaches your lips. This will give the smoke a bit of a spin and allow you to blow smoke rings and impress all your friends.

Tips & Warnings
  • You can't really over-pack a cigarette when you intend to blow smoke rings. The thicker the smoke, the better the rings.
  • Experimentation is the key. Try different techniques to find one that works best for you.
  • Constantly holding smoke in your throat can irritate it and make it uncomfortable.
  • Smoking has been linked to cancer and other diseases.
