Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Song lyrics
  • Religious scripture
  • Personal recollections about the deceased
  • Quotes from friends and family
  1. Step 1

Consider quotations from friends and family members or other people who have come into contact with the deceased. Always make sure that these comments are positive.

  2. Step 2

Choose religious quotations if the deceased ascribed to a certain faith. You can ask a religious leader to help you if you yourself are not religious.

  3. Step 3

Include song lyrics from the deceased's favorite song or band.

  4. Step 4

Use the Internet to search for quotations for your eulogy that fit a certain theme outlined in the rest of your eulogy.

  5. Step 5

Use quotations from the deceased. You can get these from past memories of your own or of friends and family members.

  6. Step 6

Make a list of all of the quotations you could use.

  7. Step 7

Write your eulogy with your list of possible quotations in front of you, adding them as you see fit.

Tips & Warnings
  • Ask for help if you need it. Friends and family can provide you with ideas for finding quotations, or telling you about things the deceased said.
  • Avoid ad-libbing—delivering the eulogy will be an emotional moment so having a written eulogy will help you get through it.
  • Always be respectful of everyone attending the funeral. Don't include quotations from the deceased that may offend anyone present.
