Enjoying time with your family is something that you want to remember for years to come, and family portraits are the perfect way to record these memories. If hiking is something you and your family enjoy, you will find ample possibilities for great portraits. Never miss the opportunity to take a camera along, and you will find that your photo albums are overflowing by the time you are ready to pass them on.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Bring everything you need. A camera, a tripod if possible, and even a photographer if you choose. (Keep in mind that there may not be a friendly passerby to click the shutter when you get to the top of the hike.)

  2. Step 2

Dress nicely, but appropriately. Don't wear uncomfortable shoes or clothing.

  3. Step 3

Make sure the sun is behind the camera. That sunset shot might seem like a good idea, but your family will develop as shadows in front of the sun.

  4. Step 4

Watch the background for power lines or other obstructions.

  5. Step 5

Be prepared to edit stray people, houses and trash cans out of your shot later.

  6. Step 6

Let your family enjoy the hike, and your photos will show it!

Tips & Warnings
  • Spot check each other for things like sunscreen blobs or spinach in your teeth before you take the photo.
  • Digital is best if you are not hiring a professional, as you can make sure that the image did not blur, everyone smiled, and you all have heads in the final product.
  • Do not take photos with the sun behind the subject.
