If the deceased was not a religious person, he or she would likely not wish to have a religious burial service. In accordance with their wishes, you will have to plan a different kind of funeral for them. Friends and family can be the perfect people to rely upon at this difficult time.

on 2/21/2008 If you have trouble finding family members and/or friends willing to speak at the service, consider contacting the First Church of Atheism (http://firstchurchofatheism.org). They keep a directory of ordained atheist ministers who are available to preside over all manner of non-religious ceremonies. Even if you don't want an atheist minister, the site should be able to provide you with ideas on how to conduct a non-religious funeral.
