Things You’ll Need:
- One or two sticks of compatible RAM
- Macbook
- #00 Phillips Head Screwdriver
- ESD wrist strap for electro static discharge protection
Install Memory in Your Macbook
Step1
Unplug the AC adapter from your Macbook and let it cool down if it's been running.
Step2
Use an ESD wrist strap or some other method to ground yourself before opening the back of your laptop.
Step3
Turn your Macbook over and locate the battery compartment.
Step4
Open the battery compartment by sliding both latches up to release the door, then lifting it off.
Step5
Remove the battery from the compartment.
Step6
Using a small Phillips head screwdriver, unscrew the memory door inside the battery bay.
Step7
Remove the RAM module(s) you are replacing by gently pressing apart the securing clips on either side of the memory module and lifting it to about a 25-degree angle. Slide it out of its slot.
Step8
Line up the notch in the bottom of the new memory module with the tab in the bottom of the memory slot. Slide the module into place at about a 25-degree angle. Push firmly until the gold metal pins are hidden from sight.
Step9
Gently spread the securing clips and press down on the module until it lies flat and the securing clips click into place.
Step10
Repeat to install additional memory in the second slot.
Step11
Replace the memory access door.
Step12
Replace the battery and the battery bay door.
