Installing a keyboard for your laptop PC is the way to go when you frequently type for long periods or if you find that your laptop keyboard is too crowded to use comfortably. Using a wireless keyboard over a wired one makes it easier to transport and set up your laptop when you need to use it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Driver disk
  • Batteries
  • Laptop PC
  • Wireless keyboard
  1. Step 1

Open the battery compartment of your wireless keyboard and insert the batteries. Match the polarities correctly.

  2. Step 2

Position the wireless receiver. It should be placed at least 8 inches away from your computer to avoid interference, and should be between 8 inches and 6 feet away from the keyboard.

  3. Step 3

Insert the driver CD that came with your wireless keyboard into your CD drive.

  4. Step 4

Follow the onscreen instructions to install the software and set up your keyboard.

  5. Step 5

Connect the wireless receiver to the USB port on your laptop.

  6. Step 6

Test your new keyboard by typing a few lines of text in a Word document or text file.

Tips & Warnings
  • Check the box of the wireless keyboard before you buy it to make sure your laptop meets all the stated requirements.
  • Keep spare batteries on hand so that you’re not stuck without a keyboard when they run out of juice.
  • Consider buying a packaged set with a wireless keyboard and mouse. These are often less expensive than buying the two items separately, and they typically operate on the same receiver when you buy them packaged together.
