How to Enjoy the Baseball Season When Your Favorite Team Is in Last Place

We’ve all been there—especially Cubs fans: The season isn’t even half over and your team is hopelessly out of it already. Here’s how to keep the games interesting, or at least keep your spirits up, when your team is in the cellar.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Jump on the bandwagon of a more successful team. You should have plenty to choose from!
Step2
Keep in mind that Rome wasn’t built in a day—although that really hasn’t much to do with your team’s predicament, and is pretty obvious information when you think about it.
Step3
Don’t watch. The car wreck’s already over, nobody says you have to stick around and smell the fumes.
Step4
Take solace in the little things that their season will be remembered for. Like the two-game winning streak they went on back in spring training.
Step5
Don’t forget that things could be even worse for your team. Oh, wait, no they couldn’t. Never mind.
Step6
Give up on the current action and just watch highlight videos of the team’s glory days. This will be really challenging if you’re a Devil Rays fan, however.
Step7
Live in a world of complete denial, happily convinced your team is in first all year. Reading the sports section’s team standings upside-down will aid greatly in this grand self-delusion.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don’t forget, there’s always next year! Or the year after that, or the year after that...
