Step 1
Investigate. Ask your neighbors if they know whether the cat has a home. Put up notices at the supermarket and other places saying "Cat Found" with a description.
-
Step 2
If no one responds, take the cat to a veterinarian for a checkup. If the cat isn't spayed or neutered, make plans to take care of that.
-
Step 3
But first get all the necessary vaccinations. These include shots for rabies, feline leukemia virus (FeLV), panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus.
-
Step 4
Have the vet check for internal parasites and get topical treatment for fleas and ticks, if necessary.
-
Step 5
Talk to the vet about the cat’s diet and hygiene. Ask if the vet can determine the age and breed of the cat.
-
Step 6
Make your cat feel at home. Make sure your pet has enough food and water, and have it wear a collar so nobody else thinks your new friend is a stray. Buy some toys for the cat. Bright rubber balls are perfect choice. You should also purchase a scratch pad and a litter box.
-
Step 7
Treat the cat as a member of your family and enjoy your new pet!
