Many videos are available free on the Web, most notably on sites like YouTube. There are two ways to download YouTube videos for viewing on your iPod. Follow these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Video iPod
  • Firefox browser
  1. Step 1

If you don't already have it on your computer, download the free Firefox Web browser (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Under Tools/Add-ons, click the "Extensions" tab and "Get Extensions." Search for the Greasemonkey extension and install it.

  3. Step 3

Access Firefox's user scripts (see Resources below) and install the "Download YouTube Video" script. This will enable you to download YouTube videos as you watch them, or when you visit YouTube.

  4. Step 4

You also can use the "Download Video" option beneath the screen on the YouTube site. Click on that option and save the file to your computer. Make a note of the file name or change it to something you'll remember

  5. Step 5

To convert the YouTube download for iPod, go to eRightSoft (see Resources below) and download the free Super video converter. The Super program converts files to the "avi" format for viewing and, using Windows Movie Maker, to "wmv" files.

  6. Step 6

In the Super program, select Apple-iPod from the "Output Container," and then select the output video codec h.264/AVC. Set the size to 320x240. Should you get an error message while you are converting your YouTube file, unclick the "Use DirectShow" button.

  7. Step 7

Drag the newly converted YouTube video file into iTunes. It is now available for viewing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Using the Super video converter application should also make your iPod compatible with most of the PlayForSure Video compliant players.
  • Do not download more video files than your iPod can handle; it will corrupt the files and you'll get error messages.
