Does your girlfriend spend most of her time typing on the computer? Are you looking for an interesting way to propose? Why not propose by changing the letters around on her keyboard? Here is how to do it.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Check out her keyboard before you get started to make sure the alphabet keys are all the same size and shape; that way, you know they can be removed and rearranged without a problem.

  2. Step 2

Compose your message. If you don't have a second or third keyboard you can use to get duplicate letters, you will need to write a message that does not repeat letters.

  3. Step 3

Unplug the keyboard from her computer or be sure the computer is turned off.

  4. Step 4

Once you have mapped out your message, it's time to remove the letters from her keyboard. You can typically use a knife slid under the edge of the letter and then carefully apply pressure to pop off the key.

  5. Step 5

Once the keys have been removed, arrange the keys you need for your proposal. Once they are arranged, begin to place the keys back on the keyboard.

  6. Step 6

Snap the keys for your proposal into place on the keyboard, then add the rest back on so there are no keys missing.

  7. Step 7

Wait for her to get back to her computer and notice your message. If you want to highlight the message, use keys from different colored keyboards. For example, use white keys to spell out your message on a black keyboard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Nervous about changing the letters around on her keyboard? There are a couple of alternative options: Buy a cheap keyboard at a thrift shop, change the keys on it and swap it for her keyboard. Or use decals placed over the keys--she'll feel the difference under her fingers and look down to see your message.
  • Want to spell out complete sentences with duplicated letters? Look for keyboards of the same model at thrift shops and use them to provide the letters you need for your message.
  • Not all keyboards have keys that can easily be substituted for one another. If hers doesn't, consider buying a replacement keyboard, rearranging the letters on it and substituting it for her regular keyboard.
  • Be careful not to break the prongs that hold the keys in place on the keyboard when you remove and reattach the keys to it.
