Symptoms of a poor performing video card include software hang ups, software modules that don't respond to mouse clicks and blank spaces in 3-D images. Memory exhaustion is usually the cause. The card's poor performance also may be due to flaws in hardware or hardware settings, which cannot be corrected. However, you can take these steps to improve the performance of your video card.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
Step1
Search for the latest drivers for your video card. It may be possible that the current drivers have become obsolete and have flaws in them. Updated video card drivers can be purchased from computer manufacturers and most computer stores.
Step2
Install the updated video card driver and observe any changes in the display quality. If there is no improvement, move to the next step.
Step3
Reduce the number of 3-D images your monitor currently displays.
Step4
Decrease the screen and color resolution of your monitor if they are high. Right click the mouse on the desktop. Select ‘'Properties." This will summon the ‘'Display Properties'' page. Then select the ‘'Settings" page to make graphics card settings.
Step5
Replace the card if the screen resolution has to be decreased to 800 x 600 or less and color resolution to 256 colors.
