How to Enable Auto Login in Windows XP Operating System

With Windows XP, auto login lets you access the system without entering a password each time. Follow these steps to activate this feature.

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Windows XP operating system and Internet access
  1. Step 1

    Press the Start button. It will display several options. Select the Run option. You will see the User Name at the top of the Start menu. Write the name on a pad.

  2. Step 2

    Enter ‘'Control user passwords 2" in the open Run box and click the "OK" button.

  3. Step 3

    Go to the next box entitled "User Accounts." Find a small box before ‘'Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." Clear the box if it is marked. Click on "OK" at the bottom of the page.

  4. Step 4

    Click on the next User box. Enter the user name that appeared in the Start menu. The next 2 boxes will ask you to enter a password and reconfirm it.

  5. Step 5

    Enter the password and retype it in the confirmation box. Click on "OK." This will enable your auto login in Windows XP.

Tips & Warnings
  • Never select auto login if you want to restrict the use of your private files or documents in the computer.
