AbiWord is a free word processing program that allows you to create as well save a document. Supported by Linux, Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, ReactOS and BeOS operating systems, it's similar to Microsoft Word with some twists. After starting AbiWord, you will see a blank document, but you can create different documents and save them by following these easy steps.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Something to type up
  1. Step 1

Begin by clicking on the "New Document" button on the standard toolbar on the top of your computer screen. This button has a paper-like icon.

  2. Step 2

Choose your type of document and begin typing your information into the blank document.

  3. Step 3

Click the "Save" button from the toolbar; it's the one with an icon that looks like a floppy disc. Note that as soon as you click this button, a message pops up with "Save Dialog." You can click on it to view a help file.

  4. Step 4

Select the location where you want your document saved. Choose a suitable name and place in your computer to save it; for example, save your document with a file name "ImportantInfo" in "My Documents."

  5. Step 5

Press on the "Quit" button from the "File" menu when you want to close the newly created file. AbiWord will ask for your permission to close the window and leave the program.

  6. Step 6

Click the "Yes" button to exit.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you forget to save the new file before clicking on the “Quit’ button, AbiWord will automatically ask you whether to save the file or not.
  • When you save the document, the color of the button will slightly fade until you type something new.
