The free AbiWord software opens a document with normal or inbuilt styles and settings. AbiWord gives you the option to change these default styles. Follow these steps to change your default styles and documents in AbiWord.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Remember that there are 2 normal templates. One is called the User template and the other is the System template. You must edit any file in the normal template (normal.awt).
Step2
See if you have the normal template. Create one in case it is not in your document. Open a blank AbiWord document and save in a proper directory.
Step3
Select the AbiWord template in file type. Set it to normat.awt.
Step4
Open the normal.awt file. Make any changes. You can add page numbers and change the styles from "Style dialog." For example, if you insert a page number in the header, all new documents will display it.
Step5
Save the changes that you have made in the normal template.

Tips & Warnings

  • Users of Linux should place the template for Abisuite/templates directory in the home directory. If you already have the home directory, just type its name in the Save and Open dialog.
