You can replace the batter yourself on a sputtering Tungsten E2. All you'll need is a TORX T5 screwdriver, a new battery and a steady hand. Follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Replacement battery
  • Flathead screwdriver (small)
  • TORX T5 screwdriver
  • Glue

Step1
Place your PDA on a flat surface with the back of the device facing up and the screws exposed.
Step2
Remove the 4 corner screws with the TORX T5 screwdriver.
Step3
Separate the case from the body. You might have to use a flat screwdriver to gently pry it open.
Step4
Separate the 2 connectors from the motherboard.
Step5
Gently pry the battery free.
Step6
Place the new battery in position, gluing it in place to keep it steady.
Step7
Plug the wires back into the motherboard.
Step8
Snap the back cover in place and replace the screws.
Step9
Push the reset button to restart your Palm.

Tips & Warnings

  • You will need a TORX T5 screw driver to get the screws out. If it doesn't come with the replacement battery, you can order it online (see Resources below).
  • Be gentle. If you break off pieces, you may need to replace the entire device, and you may also void any outstanding warranty.
