3. Sign up for the correct class or classes to upgrade your Captain's license to a Master's. Double check to make sure the courses you choose meet all the requirements on the United States Coast Guard Merchant Mariner Licensing Web site.
4. Prepare as instructed to get the most out of the class. You will be required to pass a test before your license is upgraded. Other requirements may depend on your state's specific boating laws.
