Choose a USCG-approved course if possible, to ensure that your course meets specific requirements that may exist in your state.

Find out about the course schedule syllabus, price and if you require any special equipment.

Book in advance, especially during the spring and summer--available places may fill up quickly.

Attend classes and study hard--if you need a license to operate a personal watercraft in your state, there will be a test at the end of the course.

on 4/24/2008 Thanks for the information I went to a boat show and the coast guard was their and let me know that the course was at a local college for 2 dollars. Great course to take even if you think you know everything.
