How to Build a Sewing Cabinet
If you love to sew, a sewing cabinet is the perfect thing to keep all of your supplies and your sewing machine safe and secure. However, many people do not have sewing cabinets simply because they can be very expensive. Here are directions on how to save money by building it yourself! Does this Spark an idea?

- Screws or nails
- Dimensions of the cabinet
- Paint or stain
- Sander (optional)
- Hammer or drill
- Wood
- Doorknobs
- Protective eyewear
- Saw
- Gloves
- Hardware

Determine how much of a working space you will want on the top of the sewing machine cabinet. From there, decide on the dimensions.

Figure out how much wood you will need. At the very least, you will need a piece for the top, three pieces measuring the height you'd like your cabinet to be by the depth, one piece measuring the height by the width, and extra wood for a base and shelve in the cabinet part of this where you will store your supplies

Purchase wood at a lumberyard.

Purchase other supplies like paint or stain, weatherproofing, hardware, doorknobs and nails or screws.

Measure and cut each piece of wood so that you have a top, back and two sides.

Measure a piece that is the same size as the sides.

Attach the top to the back using nails or screws.

Attach the two sides to the structure.

Attach the third piece to the top and back an appropriate length from the left-hand side to create a storage space.

Measure the width of your storage space and cut a shelf, door and bottom.

Attach the shelf and bottom to the cabinet using nails or screws.

Attach the door then attach the knobs to the door.

Use thin strips to create an edging at the top and bottom of your cabinet and attach hardware for the doors to latch.

Paint or stain the wood to match your personal preferences.

Tips & Warnings
Drawers are another option, but they are more difficult to create.
Be careful when using power tools. Always wear protective items to keep your hands, eyes and ears safe.
Make sure you support each shelf adequately if it will be holding heavy items.
