A color laser printer is great addition to your home office if you regularly print color documents or photographs and require a machine that can produce high-quality color images.

Things You'll Need:

  • A method of payment suitable for online use (such as a credit card)
  1. Step 1

    Set your budget.

  2. Step 2

Decide what features you want your printer to have. This will depend on what you’re planning to do with it. A fairly basic model is fine for printing text documents, but you may need a higher quality model with a higher resolution for printing photos and other images.

  3. Step 3

Do some online research about different printer models. Read product reviews and find specific and accurate information at manufacturer’s Web sites to find out which models have the features that are most important to you.

  4. Step 4

Narrow your choices down to two or three different models.

  5. Step 5

Type the printer model you’re looking for into the search box on a comparison shopping Web site then click the “Search” button.

  6. Step 6

Do the same for each model you’re interested in to compare prices.

  7. Step 7

Make your final decision. Remember to find out what kind of warranty is available for each model. A good warranty can make a slightly higher price more cost effective.

  8. Step 8

Buy your printer online, or choose a retail store near you if you’d rather buy in person. If you want extra help with making your choice, it’s better to buy in person rather than online.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you decide to buy from an online merchant, take their business reputation into account as well as the price of the item.
  • You’ll often save money by buying online, but you don’t get to see what you’re buying before it arrives. It’s a good idea to find a retail store that sells the item you want, so you can see it in action before purchasing,
  • Comparison shopping Web sites don’t only list items which can be purchased online. They’ll also list products that are sold in retail stores. Froogle even allows you to pinpoint store locations on a map and map a route from your home to the store.
  • When comparing prices include the cost of shipping and sales tax in the total price if you buy from an online store.
  • Make sure you find out whether or not you need to buy connection cables before you buy a printer. Not all models include cables.
