The self-test option that most new printers have means that you can use a quick and easy test to check for simple problems such as incorrect calibration. Here's how to do it.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • HP Laser Printer
  • Computer
  • Printer paper
  • Printer ink cartridge
Step1
Turn on your computer and printer.
Step2
Click “Start” in your Windows taskbar.
Step3
Click “Control panel” in the menu.
Step4
Choose “Printers and other hardware.”
Step5
Click “View installed printers.”
Step6
Right click on the HP laser printer icon.
Step7
Click “Print Test Page" to perform the self-test.

Tips & Warnings

  • Perform a test if you have low print quality but still have plenty of ink left in the cartridge. Your printer may need recalibrating.
  • You should perform a self-test when you install a new ink cartridge.
  • The test will not work well if the ink level in the cartridge is low.
