How to Perform a Self-Test on an HP Laser Printer

The self-test option that most new printers have means that you can use a quick and easy test to check for simple problems such as incorrect calibration. Here's how to do it.

Things You’ll Need:

• HP Laser Printer
• Computer
• Printer paper
• Printer ink cartridge

1. Turn on your computer and printer.
2. Click “Start” in your Windows taskbar.
3. Click “Control panel” in the menu.
4. Choose “Printers and other hardware.”
5. Click “View installed printers.”
6. Right click on the HP laser printer icon.
7. Click “Print Test Page" to perform the self-test.

Tips & Warnings

• Perform a test if you have low print quality but still have plenty of ink left in the cartridge. Your printer may need recalibrating.
• You should perform a self-test when you install a new ink cartridge.
• The test will not work well if the ink level in the cartridge is low.
