How to Create a Link to a Section in a Wikipedia Article

When you write an article on Wikipedia, you can create links in your article that move the reader to another section of your article or to a specific section of another article on Wikipedia. To do this, you use italics.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • A Wikipedia account
  1. Step 1

    Write the link using this format to go to a section on another page: [[Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Italics]]

  2. Step 2

    Use the format [[#Links and URLs]] to link to another section on the current page.

  3. Step 3

    The part that is written after the number sign (#) has to exactly match one of the section headings on the page.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure that the wording of the link matches a header exactly, otherwise the link will take the person to the top of the page.
