Portals in Wikipedia, called “Wikiportals,” are Web pages meant to help content readers, writers and editors find their way through different Wikipedia topics and subjects through pages like the Main Page. In other words, Wikiportals serve as entry points to other Wikipedia content, Web-based applications and articles, and are recognized in text as blue and underlined hyperlinks.

Find a Portal in the Directory of Portals

Step1
Go to Wikipedia’s directory of portals, found at the link listed below, to find a comprehensive list of all portals in Wikipedia.
Step2
Scroll down and browse through the portals to find the one or ones you’re looking for.
Step3
Find out when they were established and who created them.
Step4
Select a portal by clicking on it.

Find a Portal in the Official List of Portals

Step1
Go to Wikipedia’s list of portals (Web site listed below) to find Wikipedia’s portals that are of “reader-ready quality.”
Step2
Choose a portal out of the main topics and sub-topics listed.
Step3
Click the portal to open it.

Find a Portal Using Other Methods

Step1
Use Wikipedia’s universal browsebar feature, which links to top-level portals.
Step2
Use the portals template, which links to the list of portals as mentioned above, for more convenient browsing.
Step3
Visit the Main Page (see below for link) to help you link to various Wikipedia top-level portals.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wikiportals are very inter-accessible. In addition to being categorized according to hierarchy, most portals in Wikipedia also link to related or linear portals, as well as subportals.
