In this day of computerized mail, the identity behind email is subject to scrutiny and doubt. However, with the right wording and a created email address, this trick can catch even the most suspicious people.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Tailor this trick for friends that have a favorite famous star or person. Think of someone who has a crush on a sports hero or someone who admires a political figure.
Step2
Search for a mail prank Web site (see below). These Web sites should give you the option to create a fake email address, but will ask you to provide at least one email address that can be linked to you. This is so the person pranked can check to see who got them.
Step3
Try to find out how this celebrity speaks so you can imitate them. Write out a message pretending to be the celebrity either praising the receiver for some fabricated feat or chatting them up for a date. Don’t be afraid to ham it up. The more believable you make it, the better the reaction at the end of the email.
Step4
When you have finished writing your fake email, include as a last sentence instructing the reader to scroll down. Insert four or five paragraph spaces, then spring a “had you going, didn't I, happy April Fool's Day” message at the bottom.
Step5
Send the email to your friend and wait for a response either by telephone or regular email.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can choose to include any hints to your true identity in the prank email. Your friend gets brownie points of they figure out who sent the email in the first place.
  • After you send the email, let the receiver contact you. Try not to let them onto the fact that you have sent a prank email to them.
  • It’s important to include the April Fool's message at the bottom so the receiver doesn't get the impression that the email is real.
