The groomsmen are members of the groom’s party. They represent the groom and are usually made up of people the groom feels close to and wants to have at his side on his wedding day. When you select groomsmen for your wedding you will need to think deeply about whom you want before you make your final decision. That way, your wedding day will go off without any problems and you will look at the photos of your wedding party fondly.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Decide how may groomsmen you are going to have in your wedding. You can have as many groomsmen as you want on your wedding day. The number of groomsmen should match the number of bridesmaids so there will be an even number when they walk down the aisle.

  2. Step 2

Make a list of possible groomsmen choices. Groomsmen are usually close friends and/or relatives.

  3. Step 3

Ask the people you've chosen if they will be available to be groomsmen at your wedding. Just because you want a person to be a groomsman doesn't mean they will be available. Tell them how important they have been to you and how much it would mean to you for them to be in your wedding party.

  4. Step 4

Decide who is going to be your best man. The best man is usually your brother and/or your closest friend. Your best man is the person who will be giving the toast at your reception and be in charge of your bachelor party so he needs to know you very well.

  5. Step 5

Have alternate groomsmen in case someone becomes unavailable. It will probably be a good idea to have a couple of people standing by in case one of your groomsmen becomes ill or has a family emergency.

Tips & Warnings
  • Set rules for your groomsmen to follow. If you want your groomsmen to adhere to certain behavior, you will need to let them know this in advance.
  • Keep your wedding party manageable. Having too many groomsmen may cause your wedding to look crowded and the more people you have, the more expensive things like rehearsal dinners will become.
  • Don’t give your groomsmen too much responsibility. Remember that your wedding day is supposed to be fun for them as well.
  • Don’t choose groomsmen that do not get along. If you have two friends who do not like each other you will need to make a decision between them or choose not to include them at all.
