Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Access to a reflexology school or courses

    Find a Reflexology School

  1. Step 1

Begin by learning more about reflexology at a general information site, such as the Web site of The Association of Reflexologists (see Resources below). This site has information on getting training as a reflexologist.

  2. Step 2

Visit the American Reflexology Certification Board Web site for a list of reflexology schools across the nation (see Resources below). You can also visit the Natural Health Schools Directory Web site for another listing of schools (see Resources below).

  3. Step 3

Call or visit the school you would like to attend and ask for information and credentials. The American Commission for Accreditation of Reflexology Education and Training, or ACARET, provides reflexology educators and professionals with a process for accreditation. Find schools that are ACARET accredited, as well as accredited teachers.

  4. Step 4

Determine whether you would like to attend an actual school or just a series of workshops. Some schools are not actual educational institutions. They are simply organizations that provide a series of seminars and workshops that will help you work toward receiving ACARET accreditation.

  5. Apply to Reflexology School

  6. Step 1

Check out the Natural Health Schools Directory Web site to request more information on the schools you are considering (see Resources below). The Web site provides an information request form. Be sure to ask about the application process and any applicable fees.

  7. Step 2

Ask about all fees and tuition costs before deciding to apply. Also ask if books and supplies are included.

  8. Step 3

Read up on all the necessary requirements for enrollment. Reflexology schools that are actual educational institutions may require a minimum degree of education. Schools that are comprised of workshops and seminars may simply require a reservation and a participation fee.

  9. Step 4

Browse through the curriculum. Find a reflexology program that suits your needs. You may want to focus on a particular set of symptoms, say stress relief and muscle pain, or you may want to be a Jack-of-all-trades and really immerse yourself in the entire field of reflexology.

  10. Step 5

Submit your application and get ready for class!

Tips & Warnings
  • Reflexology training can be expensive. Make sure you understand what the total cost of courses and materials will be before you begin a program, and ask if financial assistance is available if you need it.
  • Reflexology is not meant to treat or diagnose specific illnesses, nor is a reflexologist a licensed medical practitioner. Severe pain, dizziness or abdominal distress should be addressed by a licensed medical physician immediately. Avoid reflexology if you are pregnant.
  • Before you start any alternative medical technique, be aware that many have not been scientifically evaluated. Often, only limited information is available about their safety and effectiveness. Each state and each discipline has its own rules about how alternative medicine practitioners can be professionally licensed. If you decide to visit one, choose one licensed by a recognized national organization. Consult your primary health care provider about your decision first. Keep your doctor informed about the alternative medical technique you undertake.
