Harmful debris lodged in your ear canals could be affecting your health. Removing that debris may help you clear up some of your symptoms (like migraines, sinus trouble and balance issues) while helping you clear your mind. This may help you feel refreshed and ready to take on new challenges. Ear candling is an alternative health treatment that cleans the ear through heat-induced suction. Follow these steps to learn more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Bowl of water
  • Cotton balls
  • Two to 4 ear candles
  • Garlic oil
  • Matches or a lighter
  • Cotton swab
  • Paper plate covered with aluminum foil
  • Friend to help you with the procedure
Step1
Find a relaxing place to spend the next 40 to 60 minutes. Put on soothing background music, light some aromatic candles and dim the lights.
Step2
Lay on your side and get as comfortable as possible. Have your partner follow the instructions that come with your ear candles.
Step3
Imagine a problem, or several problems, that you would like to fix. As the lit end of the ear candle draws debris from your ear, imagine that it is drawing the specific problem out and away. When your partner cuts the burned end of the candle into a bowl of water, imagine that your worries are being cut away along with it.
Step4
Practice creative visualization while your partner continues to monitor your ear candling. Imagine yourself in a wonderful and inviting place, be it imaginary or remembered.
Step5
Turn over when your partner has finished with the first ear and begin the process all over again with the other ear. Continue to clean your mind by practicing visualization. You may want to try color therapy, as well. Imagine bathing in colored light.
Step6

Tips & Warnings

  • Ear candles are very inexpensive, especially if you order candles in quantities of a dozen or more.
  • Working with an open flame can be very dangerous. Don't attempt to perform this procedure alone.
  • Don't use ear candles if you have a damaged ear drum.
  • Visit an ER or doctor immediately if you feel intense pain in your ear(s).
  • Before you start any alternative medical technique, be aware that many have not been scientifically evaluated. Often, only limited information is available about their safety and effectiveness. Each state and each discipline has its own rules about how alternative medicine practitioners can be professionally licensed. If you decide to visit one, choose one licensed by a recognized national organization. Consult your primary health care provider about your decision first. Keep your doctor informed about the alternative medical technique you undertake.
