How to Use Magnetic Therapy to Relieve Arthritis Pain

Magnetic therapy is believed by many to be a natural alternative treatment for various conditions and ailments. Believers swear that the application of magnets to various parts of the body can aid in healing and pain relief, without the necessity of medications. Magnetic therapy is often used to treat conditions such as arthritis and rheumatism. Since you can perform this therapy on yourself and the magnets themselves are budget-friendly, it is usually an inexpensive treatment. However, holistic practitioners and other medical professionals, such as chiropractors, provide magnetic therapy services for those who choose not to work on themselves.

Things You'll Need:

  • Atlas of pain trigger points, or similar acupunture charts
  • Illustrated books or manuals that will show where magnets should be placed for treatment of specific conditions
  • Magnets of varying strengths and sizes

    Relieve Arthritis Pain in Your Body

  1. Step 1

    Locate the correct pain trigger point on the chart that relates to the injury on your body. Since the correct location may not be obvious, refer to charts or illustrations (see Resources below). Experts say the best results come when the true location is treated.

  2. Step 2

    Place the selected magnet directly on the pain trigger point.

  3. Step 3

    Use several other magnets to encircle the injured area around the pain trigger point. Place them about 1 inch apart.

  4. Step 4

    Leave magnets in place for 5 days and then remove for 5 days. Repeat this routine until pain has been reduced or alleviated.

  5. Step 5

    Take medication to relieve arthritis pain if recommended by your doctor.

  • The more acquainted you are with your pain trigger points, the easier it is to position the magnets for maximum relief.
  • Most magnets used to relieve pain are between 500 and 15,000 gauss. The more serious your injury, the higher the strength you should select.
