Let the people in your online community know a little bit about you by creating a user profile. With Web sites such as Xanga, it is easy to share as much or as little about yourself as you like with other users.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Valid Xanga username and password
  • Computer with Internet connection

Log on to Your Xanga Account

Step1
Visit the Xanga Web site to log on to your account (see Resources below). You will need to enter your username and password to enter your site on Xanga.
Step2
Find yourself at your Xanga homepage. Here you will find links to your weblog, your audioblog, your uploaded photos and everything else in your account.
Step3
Select the 'Your Profile' link under the 'Edit' menu. You will be taken to the Profile Manager page where you can edit your profile and manage your account.

Create Your Profile

Step1
Click on the 'Edit' button in the 'Basic Info' field to make changes to your name, location and age. You can choose to hide your birthdate from your public profile and you may fill in as many or as few of these fields as you choose.
Step2
Write a brief statement about who you are in the 'About Me' field of 'Basic Info.'
Step3
Hit the 'Save Changes' button to update your 'Basic Info' profile.
Step4
Add more information about yourself and what you like by clicking on any of the 'Add' buttons that accompany the following fields. You can enter information about your likes and dislikes, your education, how you'd like to be contacted and many other aspects of your life.
Step5
Click the 'Save Changes' button every time you update a section of your profile to ensure that your profile has been updated.
Step6
Preview what the rest of the Xanga community will see by clicking on the 'View Public Profile' button.

Tips & Warnings

  • Don't include information such as your address or phone number on your profile. It is important to exercise caution when sharing information on the Internet, as you can never be totally certain who is reading it and what their intentions are. Find out more about using the services on Xanga safely through their Safety page (see Resources below).
  • Though Xanga does allow children over the age of 13 to join their community, parents should still be aware of the risks faced by teens from online predators.
