How to Manage Your Content on Photobucket

File and Album accumulation can easily lead to disorganization within your Photobucket account. Spend a few extra minutes getting organized by working with sub-albums within albums and file storage. Caution should be exercised, however, as many of the changes affect content previously stored another way on Photobucket.

Things You'll Need

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Previously uploaded files or albums within Photobucket
  • Valid Photobucket account which includes your username and password

Instructions

  1. Manage Your Albums

    • 1

Visit the Photobucket home page (see Resources below). Log in to your account using your username and password information. This brings you directly into your account's main page.

    • 2

Name a sub-album in the text field next to 'Create a New Sub-Album.' This creates an album within an album. Click the 'Create' button.

    • 3

Wait for confirmation. Once the screen displays 'Album Added,' you are free to view the sub-album any time you wish.

    • 4

Delete a sub-album on Photobucket. From the main page of your account, click the radio button next to the sub-album you wish to delete. Click the 'Delete Selected Album' button. 'Album Deleted' will appear next.

    • 5

Re-name your sub-albums. Again, from the main page of your account, select the radio button next to the desired sub-album and mark it for re-naming by clicking the 'Re-name Selected Album' button.

    • 6

Change the name in the provided text field and click 'Re-name.' A message appears confirming 'Album Re-named.' The new name now displays.

    Manage Your Files

    • 7

Move files. From the main page of your account, locate the image or video you wish to move to another album. Click the 'Move' link.

    • 8

Choose the album into which you want to move your file. A drop-down box appears listing the choices. Click 'Move' and wait for the message 'Files Moved' to appear before proceeding further.

    • 9

Make backup files before deleting images. Since Photobucket can't retrieve deleted images, you should make an extra copy and save it elsewhere in case you change your mind later.

    • 10

Manage unwanted files. From your account's main page, a 'Delete' link appears for each thumbnail image. Click it and an alert appears warning you about deletion. Click 'OK' to proceed. 'File Deleted' confirms the action.

Tips & Warnings

  • Special characters are not accepted when naming albums or sub-albums.

  • Keep your content managed well from the start to ensure a smooth Photobucket experience.

  • Moving and deleting multiple files can also be done, but the process is slightly more involved. Visit the 'Help' link on the homepage for tutorial assistance.

  • You may see a message that says 'Please Delete Everything From that Album First' when deleting sub-albums. This requires you to delete all of the corresponding files or move them elsewhere before deletion can occur.

  • Re-naming sub-albums causes image link breakage to albums that were previously linked.

  • Moving files also breaks links. Forums, message boards and emails are directly affected when files are moved.

  • Be careful when posting links to your content on the forums. Remember that all users may click your links--you don't want to lead them to private images or information.
