How to Set Privacy Levels For Your Photos On Flickr

Privacy levels can help you monitor your photos for safety and privacy. On Flickr, you can choose to make a photo totally private and visible just to yourself, make it visible to everyone online, or make it just visible to your friends, your family or both.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with Internet access
  • Digital camera

    Sign Into Your Flickr Account

  1. Step 1

    Navigate to Flickr's home page and click on the button marked "Sign Up!" (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Enter your Yahoo! ID and passwords in the fields.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the "Sign In" button to enter your Flickr account.

  4. Step 4

    Choose the link that says "Sign In Here" to access your existing Flickr account.

  5. Step 5

    Enter your email address and password in the indicated fields.

  6. Step 6

    Click the "Get In Here" button to enter your Flickr account.

  7. Upload Your Photos on Flickr

  8. Step 1

    Click on the "Upload Photos" link to begin adding photos to your Flickr account.

  9. Step 2

    Click the "Browse" button and browse thumbnails of your saved photos.

  10. Step 3

    Click on the thumbnail you select and then click the "Open" button.

  11. Step 4

    Add a tag to your image by typing a description of your photo that will make it easy to sort, like "Party."

  12. Set Your Privacy Levels

  13. Step 1

    Select your privacy level while uploading your photo. Select your choice from the list of radio buttons titled "Choose The Privacy Settings."

  14. Step 2

    Click on "Private" to keep your photos from appearing in other blogs on the Internet.

  15. Step 3

    Choose 'Private' photos in the radio dials but check "Family" and/or "Friends" to allow these people to see your photos.

  16. Step 4

    Click on the "Public" radio dial to allow anyone to see your photos.

  17. Step 5

    Click on the "Upload" button to upload your photos and set your privacy levels.

  18. Change Your Privacy Levels

  19. Step 1

    Click on the "Organize" button on any page of your Flickr account.

  20. Step 2

    Click on the "New Batch" button.

  21. Step 3

    Drag the thumbnail of your photograph into the field labeled "Drag Photos Here."

  22. Step 4

    Double click the photograph in your batch that you would like to edit.

  23. Step 5

    Click on the "Permissions" link and choose from the radio buttons to select your choices (see Set Your Privacy Levels above).

Tips & Warnings
  • Take the time to set the privacy levels on your photos. Saving it for later will end up with you having a lot more work to do later!
  • If you are a blogger and like to keep your photos exclusive, consider adding a Creative Commons license (see Resources below).
  • Be aware of phishing. The aim of this tactic is to collect your personal information, including your credit card numbers, using invasive techniques that masquerade as an official site. To combat this, change your password on a regular basis and never offer your log-in information to anyone.
