Facebook can easily be integrated into almost every aspect of your life, from mobile phones to personal Web sites. Using a badge of your Facebook profile, you can share information about yourself on other sites. This is great for signatures on a forum or as a sidebar on your own Web site.

From Quick Guide: Social Networking Sites
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Facebook account
  • Computer with Internet access

Create a Badge From a Template

  1. Step 1

Start your badge creation project from the Facebook home page (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

Click on the "My Profile" link to view your current profile after you have logged in.

  3. Step 3

Select the "Create a Profile Badge" link that can be found on your profile.

  4. Step 4

Choose a template to help create your badge. A photo badge showcases your most recent photo uploads. The Signature Badge has your contact information and is ideal for email and forum signatures. The blog badge is a great addition to your external Web site or blog.

  5. Step 5

Set the preferences for your template. While they may vary slightly, you must select a layout (Horizontal or Vertical) and a format (Image or JavaScript) for each template.

  6. Step 6

Finish making changes to your badge and click "Save" to get directions for posting your badge. You will need to copy and paste the provided code into the Web site where you want the badge to appear.

  7. Create a Custom Badge

  8. Step 1

Show your individuality by choosing to "Create a Badge" from the "Create a Profile Badge" page.

  9. Step 2

Set the basic layout and format.

  10. Step 3

Add any items from the drop-down menu that you want to include in your badge. Click the "Add Item" button to add it to your badge. You may add more than one item. With no template, you can add anything you want to your badge. It will preview as you make additions.

  11. Step 4

Hit the "Save" button to complete your badge and get the necessary code to post it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Many Web sites do not accept embedded JavaScript, so check before you post your badge. You can always switch to an image-based badge.
  • Do not add too many items to your custom badge or it won't fit anywhere you want to post it.
  • Visit the Facebook Help section for tips on custom badges (see Resources below).
  • Do not place a Facebook badge anywhere that you don't want to publicize your personal information. While Facebook may be a closed network with tight security precautions, most Web sites do not have the same privacy.

on 4/21/2009 ps and just to clarify that it's for a group not an individual profile. If so the potential to advertise groups outside of facebook and seperate from individual profiles would be great.
