How to Change Facebook Information Without Notifying Everyone

Changing your Facebook information shouldn’t always be a public affair. But every time you make a change, whether it’s something trivial like adding a hometown or something more personal like changing a relationship status, Facebook announces the update in your friends’ news feeds. If you’d rather keep some things low-key or don’t want to clutter your friends’ news feeds, you can prevent Facebook from sending the updates.
Step 1
Go to your Facebook Timeline and click the “Update Info” button.
Step 2
Click the “Edit” button in the category that includes the item you want to change.
Step 3
Click the privacy setting button next to the specific item you will change, and then change the setting to “Only Me.”
Step 4
Enter your new information, and then save the change. Because of the new privacy setting no one else will see the change in their news feed, but they also can’t see the information on your Timeline.
Step 5
Click the “Activity Log” button near the top of your Timeline.
Step 6
Click the “pencil” icon next to the update describing the change you just made, and select “Hidden From Timeline.”
Step 7
Return to your Timeline and click the “Update Info” button. Go back to the item you updated, and change the privacy setting back to its original state. Because you have hidden the update in your own Timeline, the update will not appear in your friends’ news feeds once you make the information visible again.

Tips
- If you’ve made an update that’s already been sent to your friends, you can make the item disappear from their news feeds by going to your Activity Log and selecting the “Hidden From Timeline” option for the update.
