Things You'll Need:

  • Facebook account
  • Computer with Internet access

    Set Up Your Profile

  1. Step 1

Sign in to the Facebook site (see Resources below). When you are newly registered, you will be directed to a splash page with tips to get you started on Facebook, including how to set up your profile.

  2. Step 2

Click on "My Profile" to view your current profile. You can edit some items directly from this page.

  3. Step 3

Upload a photo. On the new user screen, you will find Step 2 asks you to upload a photo, but you can also click on "Edit" next to "My Profile" and select "Picture." You will be brought to simple form to upload photos from your computer.

  4. Step 4

Click "Edit" from anywhere on your profile. You can choose to edit a specific section on your profile, or you can click "Edit" on the navigation menu. Basically, they all go to the same place, with the choice to edit your Basic, Contact, Personal, Education, Work and Picture information.

  5. Step 5

Remember to click on the "Save Changes" button before you edit a different part of your profile or you will lose newly entered data.

  6. Set Your Profile's Privacy Level

  7. Step 1

Log in to Facebook and proceed to the "My Privacy" section. You will be able to choose the level of privacy for almost every Facebook function and feature.

  8. Step 2

Click on "Edit Settings" for your Profile. Here you can determine exactly who can see your profile and contact information.

  9. Step 3

Select from "Some of my networks and all my friends" if you only want one or more of your networks to have access to your information. This is handy if you want to block access to your regional network, which is open to almost anybody. Just check the box for each network you want to have access to your profile.

  10. Step 4

Establish a limited profile. From the "My Privacy" page, decide what information you want on your limited profile by clicking "Edit Limited Profile." After you create this second profile, you can choose who sees the full version and who sees the limited one.
