Many find that eBay is exceedingly user friendly, and accepts a number of different payment methods. Keep in mind that the particular methods of payment at your disposal will differ from auction to auction based on the seller's preferences. Knowing what different payment methods eBay authorizes and how to use them will make your buying experience flow much more smoothly.

Become Familiar With the Different Payment Methods on eBay

  1. Step 1

Log into eBay (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Go to "My eBay."

  3. Step 3

Click on "Won"' to see items you have won but still need to pay for.

  4. Step 4

Click on an item you need to pay for and look at the seller's payment options. Choose one.

  5. Step 5

Pay via PayPal. Using PayPal is quick, easy and secure. The money will either come directly out of your checking account or via your credit card. If you have a PayPal account of your own, you can opt to have the payment come from your PayPal balance.

  6. Step 6

Use your credit card. Some sellers take non-PayPal-based credit card payments. These are merchants with their own credit card acceptance system. When you choose this payment option, you will be taken to the seller's merchant check-out page to complete the transaction. Simply enter your credit card number and expiration date as you would for any online purchase.

  7. Step 7

Send payment by personal check, certified check or money order. Not every seller accepts these payment methods, but those that do will provide you with an address where you can send payment. This address will either be found on the auction listing or the seller will email it to you after you have won the auction.

Tips & Warnings
  • When you have additional questions regarding the use of the different payment methods on eBay, visit the eBay Help page (see Resources below).
  • Be proactive about your personal privacy protection when using eBay. Never give out private information to another user unless it is needed to complete a transaction. You never know who you are really dealing with, so be careful and you will go a long way toward avoiding identity theft.
