How to Report A Listing On Ebay

Although eBay may be an open, interactive community, but this does not mean it is an anarchy. There are rules for using eBay, whether you are a buyer or a seller. These rules include some restrictions on what can be sold on the site and what sort of language can be used in auction and eBay store listings. If you find a listing that violates eBay's policies, you will want to report it to the eBay authorities.

Things You'll Need:

  • Connection to the Internet
  • Valid eBay membership
  • Computer

    Report a Rogue Listing on eBay

  1. Step 1

    Visit eBay and sign in to your account (see Resources below).

  2. Step 2

    Click on "Help."

  3. Step 3

    Hit "Contact Us."

  4. Step 4

    Select "Listing Violations," then click on the "Continue" button.

  5. Step 5

    Choose the category under which you think the listing violation falls. In some cases, you will be prompted to select 1 to 2 sub-categories as well. Once you have made your selections, click "Continue."

  6. Step 6

    Read all about the violation. eBay will provide you with a link you can click on to read about your selected violation category in more depth. Once you have read this information, if you still want to report the listing, go back one page and click on the "Email Us" link.

  7. Step 7

    Enter the item number of the auction you want to report. There is a box provided for this. Once you have entered the appropriate number (or numbers, if you are reporting more than 1 listing), hit the "Send" button. You have successfully reported a listing.

Tips & Warnings
  • Should you have further need of assistance with how to report a listing on eBay, head to the eBay Help page (see Resources below).
  • Know eBay's listing policies before you make a report against a listing. The listing policies include a description of the many kinds of listing violations. These policies can be found on the Help page under "Listing Policies."
  • Do not expect to hear back from eBay regarding the status of your listing report. eBay is not able to update you regarding this matter due to legal and privacy reasons. Once you submit your report, your role in the matter is completed.
  • eBay stores your personal and financial information on its site. While there are plenty of security measures in place to protect this information, you may want to increase the effectiveness of these measures by making periodic changes to your password. You should also refrain from giving personal information to other eBay users.
