How to Submit Videos to YouTube

If you've got video content you'd love to share with the world, YouTube will let you do it. Uploading self-made videos is a quick and easy process, and as long as you're the copyright owner and the video doesn't violate any of YouTube's terms of service, you can post to your heart's content.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • YouTube account
  • Computer with Internet connection
  • Digital video content in an acceptable format
  1. Step 1

    Go to the YouTube home page (see the Resources section below).

  2. Step 2

    Log in to the system by clicking 'Log In.' To create a new account, select 'Sign Up.'

  3. Step 3

    Click the 'Upload Videos' text link.

  4. Step 4

    Enter your first video's title. Be as descriptive as possible, as this will be on display to all YouTube viewers.

  5. Step 5

    Type a detailed description of the video's content.

  6. Step 6

    Create tags for your content. Tags are keywords that users can enter to find videos like yours.

  7. Step 7

    Click the category that is most relevant.

  8. Step 8

    Hit the language pull-down menu and click the language your video is in..

  9. Step 9

    Read the copyright notice.

  10. Step 10

    Click 'Continue Uploading.'

  11. Step 11

    Select 'Choose File.' A pop-up window will appear. Select your video from your hard drive's list and click 'Choose.'

  12. Step 12

    Decide whether you want your video to be 'Public' or 'Private,' and click the corresponding button. You may also choose to send the video to a pre-existing contact list of family and friends.

  13. Step 13

    Click 'Upload Video.' Your content has now been submitted to the YouTube community.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you need any more help submitting your videos, visit the YouTube Help Center.
  • Accepted video formats include .WMV, .AVI, .MOV, and .MPG. Other formats will likely be rejected.
  • Make sure to also read YouTube's Terms of Use. This will ensure you are not breaking any service agreements when you submit your videos.
  • Note that YouTube's privacy policy states that you cannot remove media files once you have uploaded them to the site.
