How to Leave Comments on YouTube

If you're a fan of video, you're probably a fan of YouTube. This hugely popular social networking site boasts one of the largest databases of video content every compiled. But YouTube is more than just a pile of videos; it's a full-on community as well. Members can create their own video content, communicate with other members and post comments.

Things You'll Need:

• Webcam to post video responses
• Computer with Internet connection

Post Text Comments on Videos

1. Load the YouTube home page (see the Resources section below).

2. Click 'Log In' to sign in with an existing account. If you're not a member of YouTube yet, hit 'Sign Up' and complete the registration process.

3. Browse through the selection of video content, either by looking at featured videos or by clicking on specific categories.

4. Find an interesting video and click on the video image or text link to view it.

5. Watch the video. If you'd like to leave comments, click the 'Post A Text Comment' text link. A blank box will appear.

6. Type your comment in the box and click 'Post Comment.' Hit 'Discard' to erase what you've written and start again.

7. View your comment immediately in the Comments & Responses area of the page.

8. Go to the YouTube Help Center if your comment doesn't appear or if you are having trouble posting. Click on the link that says 'The YouTube Community.' Then, click on the link for 'Interacting With Videos.' You'll see a section on posting and managing comments.

9. View an interesting video. If you choose to leave a video response instead of a basic text response, click 'Post a Video Response' on the video's main page.

10. Create a title for your comment.

11. Write a description.

12. Type in appropriate tags for searching purposes.

13. Choose your language.

14. Click 'Allow' under the 'Adobe Flash Player Settings' window. If your Webcam is properly connected, you'll receive word in the dialogue box that recording can begin. Record your comments and post them.

• You must create an account on YouTube before you're allowed to leave comments.
• Become familiar with YouTube's Terms of Use before leaving comments. Certain copyrighted content and profanity is not allowed.
